ABOUT THE HOSTS!

Joseph Anthony Ramirez, Sr. and his wife, Janet Ramirez have been the beloved hosts of KYCC’s gospel music program, “Sunday Night Joy”,  for an incredible 38 years, since November 1985. Janet is originally from Stockton, while Joe’s family moved there from Southern California in 1972. The couple met at First Pentecostal Church, now known as Christian Life Center, and have been happily married since 1974. They have four children, Stephanie, Joey Jr., Christina, and Nicholas, and are doting grandparents to 18 grandchildren  and 3 great-grandchildren who occupy much of their free time.

Joe and Janet remain faithful members of Christian Life Center, with both of them  having sung in the choir. When it comes to gospel music, Joe’s favorite song is “More Than Enough” by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, while Janet’s is “All the Angels” by the Hawkins Seminar Mass Choir. Joe’s favorite artist is Daryl Coley, and Janet favors Lady Tramaine Hawkins. They both enjoy Mexican food, although Joe admits he can be easily swayed by a pepperoni pizza.

Hosting Sunday Night Joy has been a rewarding experience for the Ramirez’s Joe reflects, “We have had the privilege of meeting many of the artists that we feature on our program. We have also had the opportunity to interview two gospel legends, Andrae Crouch and Edwin & Walter Hawkins. But even with all that, the greatest privilege we have enjoyed is the opportunity to spend four hours with our precious listeners each Sunday evening. We truly love them and appreciate them for allowing us to join them for all these years.”

Joe and Janet have received numerous awards and recognitions for their outstanding contributions to gospel music broadcasting. They received the “Announcer of the Year Award” from Dr. Edwin Hawkins & Bishop Walter Hawkins in June 2008 and were inducted into the “Broadcasters Hall of Fame” in November 2009 in Akron, Ohio. They are the first husband/wife team to both receive the “GMWA Gospel Announcers Guild Crystal Mic Media Award” for Announcer of the Year – Joe in 1991 and Janet in 2011. On April 2, 2011, they were presented with a commendation for “25 Years of Service to Citizens of Stockton” from Mayor Ann Johnston and Stockton City Council. They were also awarded the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Central Valley Chapter of Edwin & Walter Hawkins Music & Arts Seminar on November 21, 2015. Most recently, on March 12, 2016, they received the NAACP award for “Outstanding Community Service in Religious Affairs.”
