Skip Martin is a Grammy Award and two-time Emmy Award-winning artist, producer, songwriter, and author, best known as the lead singer and trumpeter for the iconic groups Kool & the Gang—2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees—and The Dazz Band.

With a career spanning decades, Skip’s influence on R&B, funk, and pop music is legendary. His achievements include Platinum and Gold records, an R&B Song of the Year award, six consecutive Top 100 albums, and two Top 100 singles. In 2023,

Skip was honored with a Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to music and community service.

Skip holds an Honorary Doctorate in Music and numerous accolades recognizing his performances for U.S. troops in Iraq and Kuwait. He is a Special Honorary Member of the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band and serves as a Goodwill Ambassador to Okinawa, Kakegawa City, and Itako City in Japan—an extraordinary honor for a non-resident.

His Emmy-winning project “People Get Ready” united 28 renowned artists—including Stevie Wonder, Taylor Dayne, Ray Parker Jr., and Doug E. Fresh—in a powerful campaign supporting children and families at St. Jude during the COVID-19 pandemic.
