ABOUT THE HOST!

Chris Clay is a seasoned radio host and producer with over 32 years of experience in the broadcast industry. He currently hosts two shows on KYBN Radio 98.10 FM: “The Indie Countdown” on Thursday nights and “Soul Café” on Friday nights. Chris’s passion for radio and music began in his childhood in New Orleans, where he was exposed to a diverse range of genres, from Motown to Jazz.

After graduating from LSU in Baton Rouge, LA with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, Chris began his career in radio. He was later hired in 2018 by Taylor Made Media Group, partly owned by Apple Radio, to produce an indie soul radio show that would air Monday to Friday. Chris and his team created a platform to showcase the very best of indie soul music, offering interviews, monthly awards, and an annual event, the Indie Soul Awards, which is equivalent to the Grammy’s.

Throughout his career, Chris has been influenced by radio legends such as Frankie Crocker, Walt baby Love, The Late E Rodney Jones, and The Late Guy Broady. He believes that the rise of cellphones and tablets has made the internet a major player in the music industry, providing consumers with immediate access to new music. Chris believes that a hit record is one that is requested organically, streams huge numbers, and sells out shows to a dedicated fan base.

Chris stresses the importance of hiring experts in their respective fields, whether it’s social media, radio, production, or promotion. He advises doing thorough research on indie promoters before spending any money, as there are many unscrupulous people in the business. Chris is a firm believer in helping others and staying ahead of the curve by talking to people in the industry, including studio owners, artists, and promoters.

Overall, Chris Clay is a dedicated and experienced radio host and producer who has a deep love for music and a passion for supporting indie soul artists.
